Cookie Policy
Last updated: November 1, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how Word Counter (wordcounter.network) uses cookies and similar technologies, and how you can control them. For how we handle personal information in general, see our Privacy Policy.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as local storage, work in the same way. They can be strictly necessary for a site to work, or optional, for example to measure how many people visit.
The cookies we use
Our writing tools do not need cookies, and the text you type or open is never stored in a cookie. We use:
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes visitors so we can count visits | 2 years | Analytics (optional) |
_ga_<ID> | Google Analytics | Keeps track of the current visit (session) | 2 years | Analytics (optional) |
wc_consent | Word Counter | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies (stored in your browser’s local storage, not a cookie) | Until you clear it | Strictly necessary |
wordpress_*, wp-settings-* | Word Counter (WordPress) | Keep site administrators logged in | Session to 1 year | Strictly necessary, administrators only |
We do not use advertising, social media or cross-site tracking cookies. If this changes, we will update this policy and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
How we ask for consent
- EEA, UK and Switzerland: analytics cookies are off until you click Accept. If you click Reject, they stay off. Google Analytics may still receive basic, cookieless signals that do not identify you, under Google Consent Mode.
- Other countries, including the United States: analytics cookies are on by default. You can turn them off at any time with the button below.
- Global Privacy Control: if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to turn analytics cookies off, unless you choose to accept them.
Change your choice
Your choice is saved in your browser, so it applies to this browser and device only. Clearing your browser data resets it.
Other ways to control cookies
- Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. Blocking cookies does not stop our tools from working.
- Google offers a Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- You can read how Google uses data at How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if the cookies we use change. The “Last updated” date shows the latest version.
