Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Word Counter (“we”, “us”), at wordcounter.network, collects when you use the website, and how it is used. If you have any questions, email help@wordcounter.network.

The short version

  • We never collect the text you type or the files you open. All counting and analysis happens inside your web browser.
  • We use Google Analytics to count visits and understand which pages are useful. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, analytics cookies are used only if you accept them.
  • We do not sell your personal information, and you do not need an account to use the site.

1. Text and files you use in our tools

When you type, paste or open a file in any tool, the content is processed by JavaScript in your browser on your device. It is not sent to our server, stored by us, added to web addresses or sent to analytics. Closing or refreshing the page clears it.

To read PDF files, your browser loads Mozilla’s PDF.js reader from our website. For some PDFs written in Chinese, Japanese or Korean, the reader may also download character-map files from cdnjs, a public content network run by Cloudflare. That request contains only the name of the character map, not your document.

2. Information collected automatically

Google Analytics 4. We use Google Analytics, provided by Google LLC, to measure page views. It may collect information such as the pages you visit, how you arrived at the site, your browser and device type, screen size, and approximate location (country or city) derived from your IP address. Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We have turned off Google’s optional data-sharing settings. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies named _ga and _ga_* that last up to 2 years.

Server logs. Our hosting provider, Hostinger, automatically records technical information about requests to the website, such as IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. These logs are used for security, troubleshooting and keeping the site running.

3. Cookies and similar storage

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies, mainly Google Analytics cookies, which are optional. Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland are asked before they are set, and we treat a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as a request to turn them off. 4. Information you send us

If you use our contact form or email help@wordcounter.network, we receive your name, email address, the topic you choose and your message. Contact-form messages are emailed to our inbox and also stored privately in our website’s administration area so they are not lost. We use them only to reply to you and to improve the site, and we automatically delete stored form messages after 12 months.

To prevent spam, the form uses a hidden field and a time check, and it limits each visitor to 5 messages per hour. For this limit we keep a one-way, salted code derived from your IP address for one hour; we do not store the IP address itself.

5. How we use information

  • To operate, secure and fix the website.
  • To understand which tools and pages are useful, so we can improve them.
  • To reply to messages you send us.

We do not use your information for automated decisions about you, and we do not sell or rent it.

6. Service providers

We share information only with providers that help us run the site: Hostinger (website hosting and email), Google (Google Analytics) and Cloudflare (cdnjs, only in the PDF case described above). These providers process data under their own privacy terms.

International transfers. Word Counter is operated from the United States, and our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where the law of the EEA, UK or Switzerland requires it, these transfers rely on safeguards such as the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses used by our providers.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR in the EEA and UK and under US state laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information about you, to object to or restrict its use, and to withdraw consent. Because we do not keep accounts or your text, we usually hold very little information that can identify you. To make a request, email help@wordcounter.network. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

8. Children

Word Counter is a general-audience website and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact help@wordcounter.network and we will delete it.

9. Data retention

Google Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in our Analytics account (Google’s default for detailed data is 2 months). Contact-form messages stored on the website are deleted automatically after 12 months; emails are kept only as long as needed to handle your request.

10. Advertising

Word Counter does not currently show ads. If we add advertising in the future, we will update this policy before ads appear, explaining any new cookies and your choices.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed.
