Terms and Conditions
Last updated: November 1, 2026
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of wordcounter.network (“Word Counter”, “we”, “us”, “our”). By using the website you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the website. Questions: help@wordcounter.network.
Summary. Our tools are free, run in your browser and do not store your text. Results are estimates you should check when they matter. You keep the rights to your content. If you live in the EU, EEA or UK, or in a US state with consumer protection laws, you keep all the rights those laws give you.
1. Who may use the website
The website is intended for a general audience. If you are under 18, or under the age of legal majority where you live, please use the website with the permission of a parent or guardian. If you use the website on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you may accept these Terms for it.
2. The service
Word Counter provides free online tools for counting and analyzing text. The tools run in your web browser. We may add, change, suspend or remove tools or features at any time, for example to fix problems or improve the service, and the website may sometimes be unavailable for maintenance. No account or payment is required.
3. Your content
You keep all rights to the text and files you use with our tools. They are processed in your browser and are not sent to us, so we do not receive, store or claim any rights to them. You are responsible for making sure you have the right to use any content you paste or open.
If you send us a message, you allow us to use it to reply to you and to improve the website. Please do not send confidential information.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the website in a way that breaks any applicable law;
- try to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorized access to the website, its servers or its contact form;
- use bots or scripts to send large numbers of requests or messages;
- copy, frame, resell or republish the website’s design, code or written content without our permission, except for short quotations with a link to the source.
We may restrict access for anyone who misuses the website.
5. Intellectual property
The website’s design, code, text, logo and the name “Word Counter” as used on this site belong to us, except third-party components that we use under their own licenses, such as Mozilla PDF.js (Apache License 2.0) and WordPress (GNU General Public License). Other product and company names belong to their owners.
6. Copyright complaints
If you believe that material on this website infringes your copyright, email help@wordcounter.network with: your contact details; a description of the copyrighted work; the address of the page where the material appears; a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorized; and a statement, under penalty of perjury where applicable, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or are authorized to act for the owner. We will review every notice and remove material where appropriate.
7. Accuracy and no professional advice
We work to make our tools accurate and explain how each one counts or calculates on its page. Results may still differ from other software, and estimates such as reading time, speaking time and page counts are approximate. Information on the website is general and is not academic, legal or professional advice. Please check important requirements, such as a word limit, against the rules that apply to you. See also our Disclaimer.
8. Third-party services and links
The website uses third-party services, such as hosting and Google Analytics, as described in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. It may also link to other websites. We do not control third-party websites and are not responsible for their content, policies or availability.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
To the extent permitted by law, the website and tools are provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement, and we do not promise that the website will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Consumers in the EU, EEA and UK: nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights, including any legal rights relating to the conformity of digital content or services.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, grades, business, revenue or profits, arising from or related to your use of, or inability to use, the website. Because the website is free, to the extent permitted by law our total liability for any claim relating to the website is limited to US$50.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for gross negligence or intentional misconduct, or any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law. Some US states do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
11. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, if you use the website for business purposes and break these Terms or the law, you agree to cover reasonable losses and costs we incur as a result, including reasonable legal fees. This section does not apply to consumers where local law does not allow it.
12. Privacy and cookies
Our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy explain what information we collect and the choices you have. They form part of these Terms.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms, for example when we add features or when the law changes. We will change the “Last updated” date and, for significant changes, show a notice on the website. Changes apply from the date they are published and do not apply to anything that happened before. If you do not agree with a change, please stop using the website.
14. Disputes and governing law
If you have a problem with the website, please contact us first at help@wordcounter.network so we can try to resolve it informally within 30 days.
Word Counter is operated from the United States. These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the U.S. state in which the operator of Word Counter resides, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. However:
- If you are a consumer in the EU, EEA or UK, you also benefit from the mandatory consumer protection laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts of that country.
- If you are a consumer in the United States, nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under the consumer protection laws of your state, and you may bring a claim in small claims court in your state where it has jurisdiction.
15. General
- If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
- If we do not enforce a right immediately, we do not give it up.
- These Terms, together with the policies linked above, are the whole agreement between you and us about the website.
- We may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms to someone who takes over the website, as long as your rights are not reduced.
