Where reading time is useful

  • Showing “5 min read” at the top of a blog post or newsletter.
  • Planning how much reading to assign for a class or meeting.
  • Checking whether an article fits the time readers usually spend on a page.

Reading speed varies a lot between people and between texts. Images, tables, code and complex vocabulary all slow readers down, so round up if you are unsure.
